Speaking to JOE, Jermaine Jenas has been discussing Liverpool’s current midfield issues and who the Reds should sign this summer to solve their problems.

It’s no secret that the Reds’ midfield is dysfunctional at the moment, and Jurgen Klopp needs to perform some major surgery in the middle of the park.

According to Jenas, one player who could solve a number of Liverpool’s problems is Declan Rice.

Indeed, the pundit says that Rice would be one of his top targets if he was at Liverpool to replace Fabinho.

Get Rice

Jenas urged the Reds to sign the England star.

“Declan Rice would be right up there on the list of players I’d be trying to get to stick in that role,” Jenas said.

“The holding midfield player role seems to be a little bit up in the air for Liverpool at the minute. I don’t know why Fabinho is not getting that time, whether he feels like he has slowed down or whether he’s just not performing well.”

“I don’t think they’ll be able to get Jude, if I’m being honest with you. I think the numbers don’t stack up from Liverpool’s point of view. They got that young boy, (Stefan) Bajčetić, who’s come in and is a great ball player.”

“But right now that defence needs more security. So, Declan would be one I’d target.”

Won’t be easy

Liverpool signing Rice would undoubtedly be a good move for Liverpool, but bringing him to Anfield wouldn’t be an easy task to say the least.

David Moyes has recently said that it may take a British-record fee to sign the midfielder, while he’s also very much a wanted man.

According to The Times, he’s Arsenal’s top target for the summer transfer window, so Liverpool would face some serious competition if they wanted to go for this one.

It’s one to keep in mind, but it won’t be an easy deal to do.
