Darren Bent has claimed that Eddie Nketiah should be banging down Mikel Arteta’s door to get a game for Arsenal.

The 21-year-old striker has started just the one Premier League game this season and is the Gunners’ top goalscorer in all competitions, with five.

Alexandre Lacazette invariably starts ahead of the Arsenal academy prospect but the Frenchman is struggling in a big way.

In last night’s 1-0 defeat by Burnley, the France international missed arguably Arsenal’s best chance of the game.

The 29-year-old, who signed from Lyon in 2017, hasn’t scored a Premier League goal since September.

And Bent, speaking on talkSPORT, claims that Nketiah should be demanding to spearhead Arsenal’s attack from here on in.

He said: “I definitely think Nketiah should start ahead of Lacazette, down the middle. If I was Nketiah I’d be knocking the door down about Lacazette. You need someone down the centre-forward role, scoring goals, and I think Nketiah would do that.”

Is he right? Well he isn’t wrong.

Arteta desperately needs to freshen things up in Wednesday’s visit of Southampton.

Lacazette just isn’t going to score and although he has other strengths, who cares if he isn’t finding the net?

You don’t win games by interceptions or holding the ball up – you do with goals and Arsenal have scored 10 in 12 Premier League games, leaving them 15th.

It’s time for Nketiah.
