Jamie Carragher told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports that he will be ‘delighted’ for David Moyes if he can get West Ham into the Champions League.
The TV pundit backed Moyes to be at West Ham for the next ‘four to five years’ and thinks it will be ‘really good’ for both the club and the Scotsman if that were to happen.
As things stand, the East London outfit are two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the Premier League table, but Moyes’ men have a game in hand.
Nonetheless, Carragher shared his thoughts on West Ham and comparing them to Everton.
“I class Everton and West Ham as similar sort of clubs,” said Carragher. “They are always fighting to be on that European stage and the dream is the Champions League.
“He has been through a lot, David Moyes, in the last few years, in terms of management and getting stick.
“I think it will be really good for him and I think it will be really good for West Ham if he’s at this club for four or five years. I think he can do similar things that he did at Everton.
“If West Ham were to (get the Champions League) I would be delighted for David Moyes, more than anyone.”
The two teams West Ham can realistically dethrone from the Champions League places are Leicester and Chelsea – although those at Old Trafford will also be looking over their shoulders.
But the Foxes are prone to a collapse, as they proved last season, whilst Chelsea are the closest to catch from a mathematical standpoint, but they have a much stronger squad and depth that could prove to be crucial.
Either way, as things stand, it is in West Ham’s hands, but this race is, more than likely, going to go down to the final day of the season.
