Some Rangers fans aren’t sold on the prospect of bringing David Bates back to Ibrox.
According to Homme du Match, Rangers are flirting with the idea of re-signing the Scotland international this summer.
The 24-year-old left the Gers to join Hamburg in Germany in 2018, shortly before Steven Gerrard’s arrival in Glasgow.
And the big centre-back remains on the German club’s books, but appears to have virtually no future over there.
Bates was once quite a big player for Rangers, hence why he was able to secure a move to Hamburg in the first place.
But some fans of the Scottish Premiership champions do not believe that Ross Wilson will be signing the defender.
No sense
Bates had a decent loan at Cercle Brugge in Belgium last season, following a poor stint at Sheffield Wednesday the year before.
At 24, Bates remains a very talented player with a bright future, but a Rangers return makes very little sense.
Gerrard already has a lot of central defenders at his disposal, evident by the fact that someone like George Edmundson was allowed to leave last month.
So the idea that the light Blues are going to add to their list of centre-backs for the sake of Bates is nonsensical really.
