Leeds United winger Daniel James was on target for his country last night.
The 23-year-old, who joined Leeds on transfer deadline day, scored Wales’ second goal in their 2-2 draw away to Czech Republic in World Cup qualifying.
James, who joined the Whites from Manchester United, is yet to score or set up a goal for Marcelo Bielsa’s side this season.
But his goal last night may raise his confidence ahead of his return to Leeds next week.
It was a brilliant finish to send his country 2-1 ahead last night and here’s what Wales Online – who gave him a 7/10 rating for his performance – wrote about him.
“The Leeds United flier had so much space to work in. His pass to Moore when the pair were through on goal was frustratingly overhit in the first half. Had ice in his veins for Wales’ second though, a great finish under pressure.”
Bielsa needs more
Bielsa and Victor Orta spent £24 million on bringing him to Elland Road, having tried and failed to sign James a couple years earlier.
And although he has impressed in bursts, Bielsa will need a lot more consistency from the jet-heeled winger going forward.
Leeds have only won one Premier League game this season – a victory over Watford before the international break – and so much more is needed before Bielsa’s side recapture their form of last season.
With Patrick Bamford in and out of the team with injury, the responsibility falls on other attackers like James to fill the goalscoring void left by the number nine.
And the sooner he kicks into top gear, displaying the sort of form he showed last night, the better.
