Newcastle United have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi, according to CalcioMercato.
It has been reported by the Italian news outlet that Newcastle are competing with Tottenham and Juventus for the signature of Icardi.
Earlier this week, Calciomercato reported that Spurs want to sign the Argentina international from PSG in the summer of 2022.
The report also claimed interest from former Italian champions Juventus in the ex-Inter Milan star.
We covered the report here on HITC Sport.
And now, the same Italian news outlet, is claiming that Newcastle now want the 28-year-old striker.
After all, an investment group led by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), and also comprising PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, have taken over Newcastle from Mike Ashley.
Newcastle are now a very rich club.

Blockbuster signing
Icardi may not be playing regularly for PSG now, but we have to say that it is hard to see too many strikers get ahead of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in Mauricio Pochettino’s lineup.
However, we cannot deny that the former Inter star is very good.
Just ask Thomas Tuchel.

The Chelseas manager worked with Icardi when he was in charge of PSG, and he raved about him.
FotMob quoted Tuchel as saying about Icardi in January 2020: “The guy is super reliable and very, very professional. He understands football tactically, works defensively and is very, very efficient.
“His work and his reliability for the team is very impressive, but I don’t want to talk about the purchase option.”
Icardi would be a blockbuster signing for Newcastle, especially if they beat Tottenham and Juventus to his signing.
