Rangers capped off their summer transfer activity by snapping up defender Philippe Senderos on a one-year contract on deadline day.

The Gers had already boosted their back line by adding Clint Hill and Lee Hodson over the summer, but manager Mark Warburton was clearly keen to bring in another central defender before the transfer window shut.

Having taken Senderos on trial in August, a deal for the Swiss international seemed likely as deadline day began, and the deal was confirmed with time to spare as Rangers added yet another new face.

The 31-year-old centre back has bags of experience having played for the likes of Arsenal, Aston Villa, AC Milan, Everton and Valencia during his club career, whilst on the international stage, he’s represented Switzerland at three World Cups.

A free agent having left Grasshopper Zurich this summer, Senderos clearly impressed Warburton enough to earn a contract, and he penned a one-year deal at Ibrox on Wednesday afternoon – meaning he is now in contention to face Celtic in the Old Firm derby after the international break.

After completing his move, Senderos took to Twitter to celebrate his move, admitting he was ‘delighted’ as he posed with the Rangers shirt for the first time.

Senderos then received a welcome message from Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn, whilst Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki – a team-mate of Senderos’ with Switzerland – congratulated the defender and wished him the best at Ibrox.
