Rangers striker Joe Garner has support from one of the club’s all-time greats.

During an interview with the club’s official website, Rangers legend Willie Henderson offered high praise for Joe Garner, and explained why he is confident that the striker will start to bang the goals in regularly for Mark Warburton’s side.

Garner made the move to Ibrox from Preston North-End in the summer, for a fee believed to be in the region of £1.8 million, but has only managed to score three goals in 16 outings for the Gers thus far.

Henderson, who made 478 league appearances for Rangers, is confident that the 28-year-old will find his goalscoring touch sooner rather than later, and backed him to be a key figure for the Glasgow giants in the second half of the season, during an exclusive interview with Rangers.co.uk:

“You can see the effort that young lad is putting in and I really hope the goals start flowing for him, in fact I’m confident they will. If Rangers can get the ball in the box for Garner I’ve no doubt he can score goals consistently, just as he did with Preston in 2014/15 when he scored 27 goals in 43 appearances.”

Warburton’s men have been on a fine run of form of late, and have won three consecutive league games, but still sit 14 points behind league leaders and bitter rivals Celtic in the table, having played a game more than Brendan Rodgers’ side.

And Garner has played a key role in his club’s resurgence, without scoring a goal.

His all-round game and commitment to the cause has been pivotal to Rangers’ winning run, and if he can add goals to that, he really could become a very important player for his side.
