Rangers chairman Dave King has told The Scottish Sun that new manager Pedro Caixinha will ‘of course’ be backed with funds in the summer transfer window.

The Gers appointed Caixinha as the new manager earlier this month, with the Portuguese boss arriving as Mark Warburton’s replacement, following his departure from Ibrox in February.

Caixinha, 46, is a relative unknown in Scottish football, having spent his managerial career working in his native Portugal with Uniao Leiria and Nacional, before heading to Mexico with Santos Laguna and most recently Qatari side Al-Gharafa.

Caixinha is now preparing for this weekend’s game against Hamilton Academical, and he will be using the final weeks of the season to analyse his players ahead of the summer transfer window, as he decides who will stay and go.

Many have suggested that Caixinha faces a problem similar to Warburton though, as the ex-Rangers boss wasn’t given the necessary funding to challenge Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Some believe that chairman Dave King simply isn’t prepared to spend big in Rangers’ pursuit of success, but he has played down those fears.

King has told The Scottish Sun that whilst he has welcomed Caixinha to Ibrox, he hasn’t actually met the new Rangers manager just yet, whilst explaining just how his move was decided.

King added that Caixinha will ‘of course’ be backed in the transfer market, before adding something of a thinly-veiled dig at Warburton, suggesting that Caixinha will get more out of the current, underperforming Rangers players.

“Yes, I have welcomed Pedro to Rangers and we will meet in person next week,” said King. “The selection and vetting process was undertaken by the football club’s executive board, with final recommendation to me and the RIFC board. That is how it should work.”

“Of course,” he added when asked whether Caixinha would be backed financially. “This season has been disappointing, but I believe the squad is better than their results, and the new manager will get more out of them,” he added.
