Spurs have been linked with a move for Danny Ings, but how does he compare to the rest of their forwards?
Tottenham have been linked with Burnley striker Danny Ings according to a report in the Lancashire Telegraph, as Mauricio Pochettino boosts his forward line.
Harry Kane has been the most prolific striker at the club this season but the performances of Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor have fallen short of what is required for the club this season.
While Kane may be the stand-out striker, he can’t do it all alone and there is a need to add a bit more strength in depth, so would the signing of Ings at White Hart Lane boost their options significantly? Let’s have a look at a few statistics:
| Position | Team | Goals | Total Scoring Att per game | Big Chance Missed | On Target Shooting Accuracy | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Harry Kane | FW | Tottenham | 7 | 2.44 | 5 | 41% | 16 | 983 |
| Danny Ings | FW | Burnley | 5 | 3 | 4 | 31% | 17 | 1,451 |
| Emmanuel Adebayor | FW | Tottenham | 2 | 1.8 | 3 | 50% | 10 | 768 |
| Roberto Soldado | FW | Tottenham | 1 | 1.5 | 6 | 33% | 12 | 574 |
The most important attribute for a striker is the goals they score, and Ings is second on the list in terms of total goals and goals per game. Though not at the top, one must consider the circumstances and the environment the players are playing in, here.
Ings is currently playing for a side that is fighting for their Premier League survival, while the other players mentioned are part of a Tottenham side that’s challenging for Champions League qualification. He has the most scoring attempts per game of all the players, which may raise a couple of questions about how much of a team player he is, or whether he’s clinical enough, coupled with the fact his shooting accuracy in terms of hitting the target is the lowest of the four.
But overall, it appears that Ings is a busy striker, and could provide something to the Tottenham side. He certainly seems to be more of a threat than both Soldado and Adebayor. One club can’t just have the one striker as their main threat, they need to have another option who is in reasonable shape in front of goal. For that reason, moving for Ings could be a shrewd move.
