Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana is in line for a new contract after an impressive start to the season, according to a report from the Daily Express.

They report the Reds plan to contact the player’s representatives before the end of the year regarding a new deal, with his current contract expiring in 2019.

It is little surprise the Reds are considering offering the player a new deal. As the report points out, Lallana is one of the more trusted players in Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Since Klopp was appointed last October, Lallana seemed to be among the first to buy into the German’s style of play, and he has even found a different role for him to operate in this season.

Lallana was part of the front three last term, but with the signing of Sadio Mane, Lallana has been able to move back into a more central midfield position.

Many have criticised Lallana for his goal-scoring output prior to this season, but that appears to have improved this season, having scored in two of the four Premier League matches so far this season, while he has also managed to score his first goal for England in the process.

Lallana’s work rate technique, and now his improved end product over the course of the calendar year suggest that his importance on the side has gained. He is a player that Klopp can turn to even when he does not start a game, and it is clear while on the field that he is one of the louder voices among the Reds.

While there will inevitably be other names considered for new contracts in the near future that impress the manager, keeping Lallana at the club would seem to be a key move for Klopp.
