Ospina was given the nod ahead of Cech in goal at the Parc de Princes last night.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that goalkeeper David Ospina proved his detractors wrong with a fine display in their opening Champions League group stage game, the London Evening Standard reports.
The Gunners fell behind within a minute to an Edinson Cavani header, but a string of saves from Ospina prevented the French champions from extending their lead, with Alexis Sanchez levelling the tie as the game approached the closing stages.
Plenty of eyebrows were raised when Ospina replaced Cech in goal for last night’s game, but Wenger appears to feel a sense of vindication, saying he has two world class goalkeepers at his disposal.
He is quoted in the Standard, saying: “It’s a good point for us. David Ospina did play very well. Tonight he showed his detractors that he is a very good goalkeeper, those who doubted him.
“Last year he made a mistake in the Champions League and everyone jumped all over him. He showed what he’s about tonight.
“I have two world-class goalkeepers.I can give them both games. If they do not play, you can’t keep two world-class goalkeepers.”
It seems that Wenger is determined to keep both of his ‘keepers happy, and one would expect Cech to return to the starting line-up this weekend when Arsenal travel to Hull City in the Premier League.
It looks as if Ospina could be in line to play in all of the Champions League group games, meaning if he also played in the cup competitions then he will have a fair few appearances under his belt.
Some may debate how highly Wenger rates Ospina, but more performances like last night in Paris can win around a few people to the Arsenal manager’s way of thinking.
