Alexander-Arnold rates Liverpool’s first choice right-back highly as he tries to learn from him.

Liverpool younger Trent Alexander-Arnold has labelled Nathaniel Clyne as the best right-back in the league in his eyes as he tries to learn from the Reds defender, the Liverpool Echo reports.
The 17-year-old has impressed for the under-23 side, and could be regarded as cover for Clyne for the season given there is no other stand-out right-back in the side, as Jon Flanagan is on loan at Burnley and Connor Randall is being used at left-back.
Alexander-Arnold has said that the captain Jordan Henderson has taken him under his wing while training with the first team.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “I think all the players are really friendly with the young players. They’ve obviously been there at one point in their career as well. I couldn’t really pick someone out but I’d say the captain Henderson took us under his wing, talked to us about how hard it’s going to be but obviously we’re good enough to be there, that’s why we’re there.”
On Clyne he added: “I’m trying to watch him and learn how good he is because he’s probably the best right back in the league for me, defensively and going forward. He’s so consistent in everything he does. I want to still play the way I play but if I can learn things from him then I’ll try and do that every day.”

It seems that Liverpool have an exciting talent that is ready and willing to learn from the more senior players at the club, but also the environment is well set up for younger players to come into the side and make an effective contribution.
The praise for Clyne is perhaps not unwarranted. People will have different opinions over whether he is the best right-back in the country, but Alexander-Arnold is learning from one of Liverpool’s most consistent performers who has rarely had a bad game since his arrival from Southampton over a year ago.
If he can develop a good level of consistency like Clyne then Alexander-Arnold has a very bright future ahead of him.
