Bafetimbi Gomis scored the winner in Swansea’s win over Aston Villa, and former Tottenham man Gylfi Sigurdsson backs his teammate to score on a more regular basis.
Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has hailed the character of striker Bafetimbi Gomis, and hopes he finds the net on a more regular basis after his late strike gave the Swans all three points against Aston Villa at Villa Park.
Gomis recently suffered a health scare in the 3-2 loss to Tottenham a couple of weeks ago, but returned for the next game, a defeat to Liverpool where he was a constant threat, but managed to find the net to keep Swansea’s bid for a record Premier League points total firmly on track.
Sigurdsson is quoted in the South Wales Evening Post, saying: “He got a proper striker’s goal on Saturday and hopefully they will go in more easily for him now.

“He’s a goalscorer and when he’s not scoring he’s not going to feel too happy.
“He’s probably been lacking a bit of confidence because he demands a lot from himself.
“I think everyone at the club is happy for him.
“He bounced back straightaway from Tottenham and was ready for the next game. That shows what sort of character he is and then he got the winner on Saturday.”
It was only a third goal in the Premier League this season for Gomis, but he has not been playing regularly all season, with Wilfried Bony – now at Manchester City – who led the line for the first part of the campaign.
But now Gomis is getting more regular starts, the onus is on him to pick up the responsibility left behind by Bony between now and the end of the season to help Garry Monk’s side finish what has been a promising season strongly.
