Sunderland midfielder Wahbi Khazri has suggested there is no need for the side to panic despite their poor start to the season which sees them bottom of the Premier League, the Chronicle reports.

The Black Cats have picked up just two points from their opening seven games as it seems they are heading for another difficult season, but Khazri suggests that hard work will help them turn their fortunes around.

He is quoted in the Chronicle, saying: “No panic, we need to work hard every day and play 100% every game.

“If we do that then the goals and the wins will come back. We need to keep working hard.

“It has been a poor start to the season, two points from seven games is not good. Now we need to work together and look to take the three points in the next game.”

Sunderland do need to start picking up points, and pretty quickly. One huge disappointing factor so far is that they surrendered a slender lead at Southampton to only draw the game in August. They also threw away a two-goal lead to Crystal Palace and have simply been unable to stop leaking goals.

This weekend they travel to fellow strugglers Stoke City, who are just one point ahead of them in the league table and are also without a league win this season. Both sides will have this down as a game they will target to win because of their respective circumstances.

It feels like a big game for both sides at the weekend, and certainly a must not lose for Sunderland as they do not want to get into a position where they feel they are on the brink of being cut adrift. Following this game they visit another side that has had a poor start to the season in West Ham. It feels like a crucial period for the club even at this stage of the season.
