Steven Davis sees Southampton improvement in every game as players understand their roles more

Southampton made it four wins on the spin in all competitions, and Davis suggests the side are starting to find their feet under Claude Puel.

Southampton midfielder Steve Davis believes everyone has started buying into Claude Puel’s methods after the Saints recorded their fourth successive win in all competitions, the Daily Echo reports.

The side moved into the top half of the Premier League following a comprehensive 3-0 win over West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday.

Charlie Austin continued his good scoring form of late while Dusan Tadic and James Ward-Prowse also found the net.

After their opening four Premier League games saw them without a win, Southampton appear to be finding some momentum with back-to-back league wins – as well as progression to the fourth round of the EFL Cup, and their Europa League campaign getting off to the perfect start.

Davis is quoted in the Daily Echo, saying: “It’s important that the lads bought into that and you can see that now after the four wins on the bounce and we can seeing everyone’s believing in it.

“There’s confidence in the team and we’re getting back to where we should be.

“We’ve seen an improvement in each game. Obviously it was going take a bit of time to get used to the new system and I think we’re adapting to it well now and understanding our roles and responsibilities a bit better.”

The Saints seem to be flourishing with a diamond formation, with Tadic playing behind the front two, while their pace on the counter-attack took the Hammers apart on Sunday.

There seems to be understanding among certain players developing as well, as illustrated with the excellent move that created the opening for Austin to score his fifth goal from his last four appearances.

At the start of the season when results were not quite coming for the club, despite one or two flashes of promise, some pundits in the game were suggesting this would be a season where Southampton would struggle. It appears they still have a good manager, a group of talented players, and they are going to prove some people wrong yet again.
