Arsenal, Liverpool, Sunderland, Swansea City and Tottenham Hotspur feature.
It has been another big weekend in the Premier League as the results have affected both the top and bottom of the table significantly. One of the main title contenders were surprised at home as they lost to a relegation candidate, whilst results have made the battle to beat the drop all the more interesting.
As always, there are acts from players which you could regard as heroic and have a telling impact on their club’s season. So, here are our five heroes from this weekend:
Raheem Sterling
Sterling has been in terrific form of late, and at the age of 19 he seems to be embracing the position that Liverpool are in as they look to be closing in on the Premier League title. At the weekend, his performance was the catalyst to a Liverpool win as he scored two goals, and set up Luis Suarez for another in their 3-2 win against Norwich City at Carrow Road.
Aaron Ramsey
It’s apparent that Ramsey’s injury this season has been a big blow to Arsenal, but his return has been welcome – and he shone in the 3-0 win over Hull City, who the Gunners will face in the FA Cup final at Wembley next month. He put in a terrific performance as he scored and played a big part in Lukas Podolski’s two strikes as they managed to keep themselves in pole position for fourth place.
Wilfried Bony
After falling behind against Newcastle United this weekend, Swansea were in danger of their position in the top flight becoming more precarious going into the final few games. Instead, a towering header from Bony, followed by a well despatched penalty in the closing stages of the game meant they secured a crucial away win. It moves the Swans six points clear of the relegation zone with three games to play.
Fabio Borini
Sunderland’s man for the big occasion strikes again. After Jozy Altidore was brought down by Cesar Azpilicueta at Stamford Bridge with the score at 1-1, Borini cooly despatched the penalty that gave the Black Cats a big win over title challenging Chelsea. Not only was the goal cheered in the North East but on Merseyside, as Borini’s goal has helped out parent club Liverpool in their quest for the title.
Christian Eriksen
He didn’t score this weekend, and he could have turned into a villain if Steve Sidwell had gone on to convert his spot kick for Fulham. But Eriksen was involved in two of Tottenham’s three goals in the 3-1 win over the Cottagers, which keeps his good form going.
