Mane has made a telling impact already following his arrival from Southampton this summer.

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has made an excellent start to life at the club and would like defenders in the league to be frightened of him.

Mane has scored two goals from his three league appearances so far, including a strike on his Anfield debut in the 4-1 win over Leicester City at the weekend.

The Senegal international is quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: “I need to give my best for the team and the most important thing is trying to keep going.

“I will be happy if defenders are afraid of me because it will make it easier for me.”

Mane credits his teammates with making things pretty easy for him to adapt to life at Anfield, as he has linked up well with other members of the forward line.

He added: “When you are new it can sometimes be difficult to adapt into the team. But here it has been easy with great players like Daniel (Sturridge), Philippe (Coutinho) and Roberto (Firmino). Now I’m in Liverpool I hope I can score more.”

The front three of Mane, Coutinho and Firmino seemed to work to great effect in games away to Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, while Mane seems to have struck up an understanding with other members of the side – including Sturridge in the League Cup win over Burton, which seemed to continue with the weekend’s win over the Foxes.

Mane is now one of the first names on the team sheet and offers some frightening pace to a Liverpool unit that was sorely lacking it last season. When he plays well, the rest of the side seem to be singing from the same hymn sheet going forward.

The Reds will be hoping he continues to make an impact for the Reds over the course of the season.
