Ryan Kent is currently on loan at Barnsley from Liverpool.

Barnsley winger Ryan Kent has been speaking to the club’s official website about the difficulties playing in the Championship compared to playing for the under-23s at Liverpool.

Kent spent half of last season on loan at Coventry City before being recalled by Jurgen Klopp midway through the campaign. Kent only went on to play one first-team game before being loaned out this term.

If he had not been sent out on loan, the chances are he would be playing for the club’s second string, and Kent seems glad to have made the move to Oakwell, saying it is a more challenging level for him to play at.

He told the official Barnsley website: “It’s a lot more difficult to play in this division than it would be for me to be back in Liverpool playing in the U23s or whatever. It’s a lot more physical, more demanding and the players in the league are much tougher. It’s a challenge in my career that I’m relishing.

Barnsley are giving me everything that I need to get to that next level, they’re really helping me in my career and I’m hopefully helping them in the process. That’s my focus right now, helping this Club push to the top of the division.”

Ryan Kent scores the second goal for Liverpool

The 19-year-old is getting some regular game time for Barnsley, having made a total of 16 appearances this season, scoring one goal to date.

The player himself thinks he is getting the kind of experience he needs in order to develop and establish a good career in the game. Considering the lack of European football at Liverpool, and the competition within the under-23 squad, going out on loan seems to be a wise decision.

It seems as though Kent may be toughened up by the experience, and if he returns to Liverpool in the summer it will be interesting to see the kind of impression he will leave on the staff at Anfield, as well as Oakwell following this spell.
