Brendan Rodgers addressed the media ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Stoke City on Sunday
Brendan Rodgers said he was surprised with the reports saying that Chelsea were unhappy with Liverpool’s use of Victor Moses.
Rodgers has said that the Nigerian winger is happy at Liverpool and still has a place within the Liverpool squad for the rest of the season.
‘I’ve seen that report and it was surprising considering I’ve got regular dialogue with Chelsea. Eddie Newton goes out and assesses the loan players and I’d only seen Eddie on Saturday, the day before the game. I’ve good contact with him and we speak openly about his development.
‘We’ve spoken clearly about the demands and expectations at a big club and what’s needed. His talent hasn’t gone away, he’s still very much a part of the squad here, he’s very happy here. Of course every player wants to play more but he’s obviously learning, like he has done at Chelsea, the demands of being at a big club.’
Moses is currently being kept out of the Liverpool side at the moment by 19-year-old winger Raheem Sterling who the Reds boss has been full of praise of, especially given the youngster’s form over the past few weeks.
‘He’s taken a bit of stick from me since I’ve come in here but it’s always been in the best interests of him and the club. He’s a good boy and it’s good to see he’s consistently now producing.
‘All he can do is concentrate on his Liverpool career and everything else follows that and at this moment in time he’s played nine games on the spin and been excellent in them. So hopefully he can continue with that run of form and to do his job which is to create goals and score goals.’
Rodgers confirmed that centre-back Daniel Agger will be about three to four weeks with a calf strain but said that Mamadou Sakho has trained, along with Daniel Sturridge, who last featured for the Reds in the Merseyside derby in November.
Sturridge will be assessed over the next 24 hours to see if he can play a part against Stoke City on Sunday, where the Reds have taken just the two points from their five Premier League visits to the Britannia Stadium.
‘He’s made a terrific impact since he’s come in here. He’s been outstanding and we’re working hard with him and his talent to allow that to flourish.
‘Over the last four to five weeks it’s obviously been difficult for us with injuries and the thinness of the squad but having these types of players back.
‘Just seeing him on the training field these past couple of games, he’s been really good. Someone of that stature and quality out there, to have that back in your group gives you great firepower.’
