The boyhood Liverpudlian is hoping for Anfield to rock in order to help the Reds to victory and intimidate their formidable opponents.

Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert believes the fans can be the difference for the side as the Reds take on European Champions Real Madrid at Anfield in a crucial Group B match.

The Reds currently sit on three points after losing on their travels in Basel in Matchday two as they host a Real side with a 100% record in the competition so far this season.

Lambert knows about being a fan and the impact the intimidating atmosphere of Anfield on a European night can have on the opposition.

In the Champions League era, Liverpool have produced some memorable nights at Anfield against opposition such as Roma, Chelsea, Juventus, Olympiakos, Barcelona and Real Madrid themselves in 2009.

The Reds’ striker told their official club website: “If [the fans] are in full voice on Wednesday, it doesn’t matter who the opposition is, it will be very hard to take any points from us. When they’re on song, the fans lift the team more than any other supporters.

“I have seen first-hand what they can do and what level they can raise the players to. If they can get [to those levels] again, which I’m sure they will, it’s only going to help us. It’s going to lift us up that extra five or 10%, which might win the game.

“It affects the team massively. And it affects the opposition as well. I can’t describe it, but it just raises your game up and gives you that extra little bit, which you might not have had. The fans just manage to make that little bit of difference.”

Liverpool will be hoping they make Anfield as intimidating as possible as the fan try and spur their side on, but the players have to play their part as well. They can’t afford such slack defending that almost cost them against Queens Park Rangers last weekend arguably the best attacking footballing side in the world.

If the fans play their part, they will be hoping it can inspire the 11 players in red to a performance that leads to a very positive result in what is their biggest match of the season so far.
