Fellaini has fallen out of favour at Manchester United in recent weeks.

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini could end his association with the club by joining AC Milan in the January transfer window, according to a report in The Times.

Fellaini has fallen down the midfield pecking order at Old Trafford in recent weeks, with a central midfield three of Michael Carrick, Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera seemingly the preferred option for manager Jose Mourinho.

The Times reports that the Belgian has told teammates he is thinking of moving on next month having made just one start over the past two months.

He has just 18 months left on his deal at the club and was spotted in Milan yesterday.

As it stands, it could be a move to suit all parties. Fellaini could be in line for some more game time if he made the move to Serie A and would move to one of Europe’s big names in the process, while United could cash in on a player that is approaching the latter stages of his contract.

So far this season, Fellaini has made 17 appearances, and although he was playing 90 minutes on a regular basis at the start of the campaign that is no longer the case, as Mourinho has searched for a way to make his midfield, and the side as a whole, far more effective.

As a result, the 29-year-old has had to settle for more and more substitute appearances and they tend to come right at the very end of games, although in one case against Everton he still found time to give a penalty away.

Now could be the right time for Fellaini to bring his time at United to an end.
