Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom is heading out on loan yet again, with Red Bull Salzburg his destination this time, according to the Liverpool Echo.

This will be Wisdom’s fourth loan spell in as many seasons having spent time on loan at Derby County, West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City in the past three campaigns. Prior to his loan spells, he featured 22 times at first-team level for Liverpool.

With Liverpool pretty well stocked in defensive areas, it was unlikely he would get any serious game time, despite featuring fairly regularly during the Reds’ pre-season fixtures.

The Echo’s report also points out that Wisdom has three years remaining on his contract at Anfield.

However, during that time he has not looked like being a part of the plans for either former boss Brendan Rodgers or current manager Jurgen Klopp.

His loan spell in Austria, however, will allow Wisdom to get a bit more experience of playing in European competition. He featured in the Europa League for the Reds in the 2012/13 season – where he scored his only goal for the club in a 5-3 win over Young Boys in their opening group stage match of that season.

If Wisdom is hoping that his future lies at Anfield, then he will need to be impressive during his time in Austria and ensure that he gets as much game time as possible.

The 23-year-old is at the stage of his career where he needs to play games regularly at a good level to continue his development. He has seen a fair amount of game time out on loan so far but does not seem to have done what is required in order to force his way into the first-team reckoning on Merseyside just yet.

Wisdom carries a fair amount of presence that is useful for a defender and can play both at right-back and at the heart of the defence. Things do need to improve, such as how he operates on the ball and one or two positional aspects of his game.

Liverpool will be hoping that Wisdom returns from his loan spell as a better player.
