Sakho has not played for the Reds since April and an outburst on Snapchat means his chances of playing time have not improved.
Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has been told by manager Jurgen Klopp that he will not play for the club unless there is a major injury crisis, according to a report in the Daily Mirror.
Sakho has not played for the Reds since April after an absence following a doping violation followed by an Achilles injury. He was also sent home by Klopp from the Reds’ pre-season tour of the United States, and Klopp wanted him to go out on loan to build up his fitness and demonstrate his professionalism, but he turned down offers from Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion and Besiktas.
Following a rant on Snapchat where Sakho appeared to claim that a lie was preventing him from playing for the first-team, it appears his days at Liverpool are numbered.
The Mirror reports that Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan, Joe Gomez, Lucas Leiva and even Kevin Stewart could be ahead of him in the pecking order to play at the heart of the Reds’ defence.
Sakho posted as part of his outburst: “I can’t accept the lie, the fans deserve to know the true (sic).”
Klopp has not fined the player for his outburst on social media but is said to have had the conversation confirming his status in the squad the day after the Reds’ 5-1 win over Hull City.
The Liverpool boss has said he will not tolerate any more outbursts. It suggests that Klopp will not be giving Sakho any game time this season, and the chances are that his Liverpool career could be coming to an end.
It is a sad state of affairs really for a player that has been well liked by the fan base, but no player is bigger than the club and unless something dramatically changes, it is hard to think that he will be given the opportunity to stake his claim for a place in the side again.
