Rodriguez has been recovering from a groin injury as he battles to find some consistent fitness.

Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez is hoping to make his latest comeback from injury against his former club Burnley on Sunday, according to the Daily Echo.
The forward has been sidelined in recent weeks with a groin injury, but the 27-year-old is hoping to get a prolonged run of games under his belt starting with the visit of his old side to St Mary’s this coming weekend.

Rodriguez will be hoping that he can put all the injures woes of recent years behind him, with the Daily Echo reporting there is optimism that persistent problems following his ACL injury – which included surgery on his foot – are now behind him.
He was set to go out on loan in the summer but he managed to find the net in the 1-1 draw with Sunderland which is set to have shelved any plans for a spell away from the club.
He has managed to find the net in the Europa League win over Sparta Prague since – making it two goals from four appearances – but he would like to improve those numbers, particularly when it comes to games played.

Prior to his injury, Rodriguez showed signs of a player in great form who was very cool in front of goal, while the aforementioned ACL injury against Manchester City in 2014 cruelly halted his progress as a player. It was thought that he was even in contention for a place in the England World Cup squad that summer.
It will be terrific for everyone involved if Rodriguez can now get some regular game time under his belt starting at the weekend. There are plenty of matches coming up, so there will be plenty of opportunities for Claude Puel to include the forward in his starting XI.
