The Newcastle United boss appears to want more celebrations like in the late win over Norwich City.
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has told the Chronicle he would like every player to celebrate the goals the side scores, whatever role they have that day, even those that may not be involved in the action.
Benitez seems to want his side to show their togetherness, and the late winner from Dwight Gayle in the comeback win over Norwich City – which is now famous for a bear hug from Aleksandar Mitrovic towards his manager as well as a 4-3 victory – is one example he would like to see more of.
The Spaniard told the Chronicle: “I think the example the players on the bench gave to everyone was very positive for the future. Everybody was together.
“Mitro celebrated with Gayle and then me. But to see players who had already come off or hadn’t came on was really good news for us.”
Even if some players are not getting as much game time as they would like, all of the players have a common goal in helping Newcastle win football matches whenever they can. Every player will want the club to be successful this season and secure a return to the Premier League at the first attempt.
It is a big squad this season for Newcastle as Benitez tries to steer his side through the campaign and keep players fresh along the way, but everyone showing the same enthusiasm for the side’s success on the field would be a good sign of positive team spirit in his eyes.
