Ojo has not played a competitive game this season because of a back injury, but seems to be close to a return.

It will be a good sight for Liverpool fans as young winger Sheyi Ojo was photographed returning to training with the rest of the squad for the first time since pre-season.

Ojo was last seen in a Liverpool shirt during the Reds’ pre-season tour of the United States. He managed to find the net in the last game where the Reds were beaten 2-1 by Roma.

However, the 19-year-old has yet to play a game this season because of a stress fracture he suffered in his back. The Liverpool Echo reports he was due to return in mid-September but suffered a setback.

The teenager caused some excitement following his return from a loan spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers midway through last season with a couple of promising displays. He featured for the first-team 11 times during the second half of last season and scored his first goal in the FA Cup third round replay win over Exeter City.

There have been notable displays from him in the Premier League as well. He played 45 minutes of a 4-1 win over Stoke City towards the end of last season, where he provided the assist for a Daniel Sturridge header, and looked bright in other games as Jürgen Klopp rotated his side as he focussed on the side’s Europa League run.

Here are a couple of pictures of Ojo returning to Melwood where he was pictured with some of his teammates who are still at the club during the international break, including Joe Gomez who has recently returned after a year out following an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

It will be interesting to see the kind of role that Klopp has in mind for Ojo, but one expects it to be a little while yet before he is considered for selection on a regular basis.

The Liverpool boss will want the youngster to build up his fitness, possibly for the under-23s, although he may have a role to play in the Reds’ EFL Cup quarter-final clash with Leeds United later this month, depending on his progress.

It could be a timely return to fitness with the Reds set to lose Sadio Mane to the Senegal squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in January. There is certainly an incentive there for Ojo to push for a place in the side at around that period, while Liverpool will welcome having another option available to them.
