Sakho hasn’t featured for the Reds since April.
Liverpool’s Mamadou Sakho
Mamadou Sakho got his first 90 minutes in a Liverpool shirt since April last night as he played 90 minutes for the under-23 side in a 2-1 defeat to Wolfsburg in the Premier League international cup.
Sakho hasn’t been able to play for the Reds after he tested positive for a doping violation, only for the it to be lifted, then suffered from an Achilles injury.
The Frenchman was then sent home from the club’s pre-season tour of the United States and Jurgen Klopp wanted him to go out on loan to demonstrate his professionalism and fitness.
Last Saturday it seemed that Sakho’s Liverpool career was all put over after a rant on Snapchat prior to the Reds’ 5-1 win over Hull City where he had complained about a ‘lie’ and had not been given the chance to even play for the Reds’ second string, which had clearly irked Klopp who said ‘it is not positive’ following the win.
So his inclusion in the game at Prenton Park was something of a surprise as he partnered Tiago Ilori at the heart of the Liverpool defence.
His appearance provides more questions than answers. Is this the start of a long road back for the Frenchman? Or is Klopp trying to get the player’s fitness up to allow the player to leave the club?
These questions will be answered over time. Many seemed to think Sakho’s Liverpool career was over following his outburst in the early hours of Saturday morning – this may offer a glimmer of hope to those that want to see him feature for the Reds’ first team again.
