Sunderland secured their passage to the fourth round of the EFL Cup with a 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers.
Sunderland defender Paddy McNair suggested things were starting to come together for the Black Cats as they came from behind to record a 2-1 win over QPR at Loftus Road, the Chronicle reports.
McNair got an unlikely brace that he hopes can be used as momentum carried into the next two league games, where they take on Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion at the Stadium of Light.
The summer signing from Manchester United is quoted in the Chronicle, saying: “Hopefully now we can build on this win and get some momentum going into Saturday and the important home games coming up.
“I think it is coming together, especially second half we moved the ball around really well. It was just what we needed to take into the next two games, which are very important.”
Sunderland will be hoping this provides something of a confidence boost after their poor start to the Premier League season, which has seen them pick up just the one point from their opening five games.
If the side has started to improve then that is a good sign as it is much needed. Recent performances prior to last night’s win have been pretty poor, notably in the second half against Everton, and an error led to Tottenham overcoming them last weekend while the side have offered relatively little going forward.
Some quick passing play and more chances being created is what is needed at the weekend against a side that seems to be finding their scoring touch in the Premier League in Crystal Palace.
It is a big game for the Black Cats on Saturday and David Moyes could do with his side recording their first league win of the campaign.
