Nigel Pearson had his fair share of controversies but he brought Leicester City to the top flight during two spells in charge.
It may have come across as a little bizarre at the time considering their strong end to the season which allowed them to retain their Premier League status, but Leicester City took the decision to sack Nigel Pearson as their manager on this day in 2015.
BBC Sport reports that it was because the working relationship between the manager and the board was ‘no longer viable’.
Pearson presided over a remarkable run towards the end of the campaign which saw Leicester win seven of their last nine league games, and finish in 14th place in the Premier League on their return to the top flight when it seemed almost certain that they would be relegated.
He was not a manager without controversy, as he famously called a journalist an ostrich, clashed with Crystal Palace’s James McCarthur and was given a one-game ban for insulting a fan during the course of that season.
However his achievements in his two spells in charge of the club should not be underestimated as he managed to get the Foxes promoted from League One in 2009 as champions and from the Championship in 2013-14 in the same way.
Some were utterly baffled by his sacking, as the BBC Sport article showed several pundits were stunned by his sacking, which came in the aftermath of three players being sacked by the club, including his son James.
He was replaced by Claudio Ranieri at the King Power Stadium and we all know what happened next.
