Elliot has been sidelined since March because of a knee injury he suffered while on international duty.

Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot has told the Chronicle that he hopes to be in full training after the international break in November.
Elliot has been sidelined ever since he tore his anterior cruciate ligament while on international duty for the Republic of Ireland back in March.
But he is closing in on fitness and will hope that he can put pressure on Karl Darlow and Matz Sels for the number one goalkeeping spot in the near future.

He is quoted in the Chronicle, saying: “I am hoping to be training in full training in three weeks. I should be back training after the international break.
“Hopefully, I will look to play reserve games or get back to full training. Mid-November would be seven months so it’s not bad at all.
“I have trained three or four times a week with Simon Smith and getting stronger, it feels really good. In two or three weeks I will be involved.”

There is still some way to go in his recovery, of course, but it is positive that he is in the final stages of it. It will be crucial for him to build up some fitness both in training and playing for Newcastle’s second string whenever he gets the opportunity to do so.
Elliot seems to be upbeat and after a long period on the sidelines, your mental strength can count for a lot. It will be a welcome sight whenever he gets back into some kind of competitive action, even if it is for the second string.
