Marcos Rojo lined up at the heart of Manchester United’s defence as they booked their place in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup with a 1-0 win over Manchester City.

Manchester United managed to lift the mood at Old Trafford following Sunday’s humbling at the hands of Chelsea, by getting one over their neighbours Manchester City to book their place in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.
A solitary Juan Mata goal early in the second half ensured United will face West Ham in the last eight of the competition.
It was a pretty intense game but chances became a little hard to come by. One other opportunity that sticks out was Paul Pogba’s effort which was saved onto the post by Willy Caballero.

As a result, a lot of focus was on the defending. United lined up with a pretty unorthodox central defensive partnership in Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo. While there were a few worries they could have been exposed during the game, they came through without conceding a single shot on target.
There seemed to be plenty of praise for Rojo – who has often been used in the full-back role during his time at Old Trafford – with many suggesting that in the future he should be used at centre-back rather than out wide.

The Argentine received plenty of praise from United fans for his display, but he might have a bit more work to do to win some of them over.
