Sakho has not played for Liverpool since the 4-0 win over Everton in April.
Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho looks prepared to leave the club in January according to the Daily Mirror, after falling out of favour at Anfield.
Sakho has not played a competitive game for the Reds since April after he allegedly breached a doping violation, with the case later dismissed by UEFA.
The Frenchman has since been sent home from the pre-season tour of the United States in the summer and did not take the advice of manager Jurgen Klopp to go out on loan to prove his fitness and professionalism.
The Mirror also reports that Klopp was antagonised further when Sakho posted on Snapchat claiming he ‘can’t accept the lies’ being said about him. Given that his snaps were sent in the early hours of the morning on the day of a game, it was hardly a demonstration of the professionalism that his manager wanted from him – even if Sakho was not going to play.
Lille are said to be interested in a loan move for the former PSG defender but it could mean Liverpool would have to subsidise the switch.
Sakho has since been playing for the under-23s but the picture seems to be clear in that the Frenchman will probably never play for the first-team again.
It is the best for all parties. Sakho needs to try to resurrect his career elsewhere, as Tuesday’s line-up for the EFL Cup win over Tottenham demonstrates how low down the pecking order he currently he is – with Ragnar Klavan and Lucas Leiva ahead of him – and Klopp seems to have a preferred central defensive partnership in Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren.
When Joe Gomez builds up his fitness, he is likely to be another player who would by vying for a place at the heart of the defence.
Sakho could also do with a change of scenery. Although he has repeatedly demonstrated his love for the area, the people, and shown what a good man he is in his participation of various charity projects, Liverpool is still the place where his career hit the buffers.
Secondly, Klopp clearly does not like the constant questions surrounding the defender’s future and if there is a resolution he will not have to face those questions. Not only that, but there will be no case of the harmony among the squad being broken in what looks as if it could be an important and momentous season for the club on the field.
A clean break can be beneficial for all in this instance.
