Karius hasn’t been available so far this season because of a broken hand.

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has taken to social media to update fans on his recovery from a broken hand he sustained during the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.

The £4.7 million signing from Mainz has said he had the wires removed from his hand to aid his recovery. This was after he was seen training with just the one hand yesterday on the club’s official website.

Karius was brought to the club to provide significant competition to Simon Mignolet for the number one shirt.

Despite signing for the club back in the summer of 2013, the Belgian has failed to convince he is the man to be the club’s number one and has yet to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League so far this season, although he did save a penalty in the opening day win over Arsenal.

The 23-year-old German will be keen to finish his recovery and stake his claim to be the club’s number one. Given that he was given the club’s number one shirt, many believe that he was signed with the intention of starting the season as the club’s first choice.

Unfortunately, Karius sustained the injury during a pre-season defeat to Chelsea when he collided with Dejan Lovren as both tried to clear a set-piece.

It will be interesting to see if Karius can establish himself as the club’s first choice goalkeeper whenever he gets his opportunity, as many will hope to see him make his bow within the next month.
