Karius will hope to be a part of the Liverpool side very soon as he continues his recovery from injury.

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has said the potential is within the Reds squad to have a good season.

Karius has yet to feature in a competitive game for the Reds after breaking his hand during the pre-season tour of the United States, but he is closing in on fitness and his debut following his move from Mainz this summer.

The German told the official club website: “We’re still in the early stages of the season so I think we should just take it from game to game. Hopefully then we can get on a good run, see where it goes and I hope we can do very well this season.

“We have the potential in our squad for sure, now it’s down to us.”

Liverpool have started the season with some mixed results but have yet to play a home game this season.

They opened their campaign with a win against Arsenal before being turned over by Premier League new boys Burnley. Their response was to hammer Burton Albion in the EFL Cup, while they can count themselves a little unfortunate not to have left White Hart Lane with all three points as they drew 1-1 with Tottenham.

Karius is widely tipped to be the club’s number one goalkeeper when he returns to full fitness, relegating Simon Mignolet to the bench in the process.

Liverpool face a tough test when they face Leicester City at Anfield this weekend in their first home game of the season, with the reigning champions trying to prove their exploits from last season was no fluke.

The Reds will be keen to build a solid foundation at the start of this season in order to aim as high as possible when it comes to the latter stages of the league, and when the prizes are handed out in other competitions.

A lot has been said about the potential Liverpool’s squad has had in recent years with several promising younger players. Karius joins Emre Can, Divock Origi and others as having great potential and now they need to fulfill it, when it could be argued that others have not been able to. Both Origi and Can have been players who have seen their stock rise considerably at Liverpool over the past year.
