Alexander-Arnold impressed for the Reds’ under-23 side again.
Liverpool under-23 boss Michael Beale appears to have set promising defender Trent Alexander-Arnold a target of good performances, in an interview with the Liverpool Echo.
Alexander-Arnold is a promising and versatile player whose progress is closely tracked by many fans of the Reds, and yesterday saw him find the net in a 3-0 win over Sunderland’s second string.
Beale seems to be after consistent performances from the 17-year-old, telling the Liverpool Echo: “Speed, aggression, strength; he had it all. But I just want him to knock out 10 performances. He’s had two or three, let’s see if he can knock out 10 and go from there.
“The confidence of training with the first-team on a regular basis, you can see the development he has made. Training at Melwood every day with top players, you can iron out mistakes and go to another level.”
The teenager is certainly an exciting prospect, and given that Jurgen Klopp decided to take him on the club’s pre-season tour of the United States earlier on this year, it would suggest that he is thought highly of by the Reds’ boss.
Some would even suggest that he could get an opportunity to make his first-team debut at some stage this season, probably at right-back given that Nathaniel Clyne has featured in every game there so far this campaign.
Beale is clearly after some consistency at under-23 level from Alexander-Arnold. There is a very talented player on Liverpool’s hands. As well as the attributes that Beale has listed, the 17-year-old has shown he is good on the ball and can read the game pretty well.
Everyone will be hoping he can find that consistency and ultimately make the grade at Anfield.
