Liverpool have been linked with another player with a reputation of being effective in wide areas and possessing pace.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Newcastle United winger Andros Townsend in a couple of the national newspapers, including the Daily Mirror.
These reports have since been rubbished by the Liverpool Echo who have said that Liverpool are not interested in signing the former Tottenham Hotspur man. But is it a real surprise that Liverpool have been linked with another wide player with pace?

Sadio Mane of Southampton and Mario Gotze of Bayern Munich have both been strongly linked with a move to Anfield, and can both operate in a wide role while contributing in front of goal.
Liverpool certainly have a shortage of quality in this area, the speculation surrounding the Reds seems to be focusing on these positions.

Jordon Ibe has not kicked on in the way that many would have hoped for, while Lazar Markovic has had an injury hit spell on loan at Fenerbahce and Sheyi Ojo only got a flurry of appearances towards the end of the season and is very much regarded as one for the future.
It is hard to envisage him starting regularly at the start of the new campaign unless there is some dramatic development from the teenager during pre-season.
It seems pretty clear there is an appetite to strengthen Liverpool’s attacking options without making much change to the recognised strikers. Improving their service and goals from other areas certainly seems to be priority.
It will be interesting to see what kind of deals are made to improve this aspect of the Liverpool team.
