Allen was in fine form until he missed the FA Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers, but should be okay to face Swansea City.
Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen has told the club’s official website that he should be okay to reclaim his place in the starting XI for Monday night’s trip to former club Swansea City.
Allen missed last Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Blackburn Rovers in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at Anfield, with Emre Can moving into the midfield to partner Jordan Henderson while Glen Johnson moved into centre-back.
The Welshman said the ankle injury he picked up was ‘only minor’, suggesting it was precautionary not to include him against the Championship side.
He said: “It was sort of touch and go for [the Blackburn] game. It probably would have cost me further down the line, so I sat that one out and I’ve just been working to get back fit.
“I’m obviously disappointed to have missed the cup game at the weekend, but hopefully that’s the only game that this injury will cost me.”
Allen’s presence in the middle of the park was sorely missed against Blackburn. At times Liverpool looked incapable of keeping Blackburn under pressure high up the field, and struggled to get control of possession in the middle of the park.
His place in the starting XI is, of course, uncertain given that Steven Gerrard has declared himself fit to play in what will be an interesting game for the Reds, with many of their rivals for the top four facing difficult encounters or playing each other.
It’s anticipated there will be at least one change in central midfield in order to return the back three to a more familiar look, allowing Emre Can to drop back.
Though he can often be a scapegoat for some supporters, Allen has shown the value he can have to this Liverpool team in recent weeks.
