Lallana has moved into a more central midfield role after operating in a wider role last term.

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has told the official Liverpool website he can use more of his qualities in the more central midfield role he has been handed by Jurgen Klopp this season.

Lallana played nearly the entire of last season in a wider role as part of a front three, but this season has been dropped into central midfield to form part of a midfield trio along with Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum so far this season.

As a result he has managed to find the net on two occasions – and has put in a string of impressive performances so far this season.

He’s quoted on the official Liverpool website, saying: “I see a lot more of the ball. When I was out wide, there would be periods in the game where I wouldn’t be as involved in the game as I would like.

“I’m sure anyone would say they want to be on the ball as much as possible. In the central area I’m getting a lot more touches on the ball and I’m being able to use one of my qualities.”

Certainly Lallana’s work rate in the middle of the park has not gone unnoticed, while he has been one player that has been able to help Liverpool control the tempo of the game.

During the summer, there were perhaps one or two questions surrounding Lallana’s place in the side because he had been playing in a wide area, and Sadio Mane had arrived at the club from Southampton, but now it seems that he has really nailed down that central position in the starting XI for himself.

It will be interesting come the end of the season just how much of a difference that Lallana’s presence in the middle of the park has made both for his own form, and the fortunes of the side.
