Simon Mignolet is eyeing a better second season at Anfield.

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has said he is satisfied with his first season at Anfield but has said there is still improvement to come from him.

Mignolet signed for £9m last summer and replaced a fans favourite in Pepe Reina in the Liverpool goal, and had big boots to fill.

The Belgian goalkeeper told Fifa.com: “I’m only 26 and that’s still young for a goalkeeper. I don’t really have any personal goals. I just think about team goals, and we’ve achieved one by making it into the Champions League.

“The only thing I can do to improve is keep on working. That’s what I’ve been doing for the last five years and it’s what I’m going to carry on doing for the next five.”

Mignolet kept 10 clean sheets in the Premier League last season, and that number will have to rise next season for the Reds if they are to kick on. Some rate his shot stopping as one of the best in the league, but it’s also said that he needs to work more on his command of his area and his distribution if he is to become the top goalkeeper that Brendan Rodgers wants him to.

There is also talk of him facing stiff competition in the Liverpool side next season with the club in the market for another goalkeeper, though it is said that Mignolet will remain as the number one.

The Reds goalkeeper is the second choice goalkeeper for Belgium at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, behind Atletico Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois, currently on loan from Chelsea.
