Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested the choice he makes for Saturday when it comes to his goalkeepers may not be the number one choice for the remainder of the season, he told his press conference, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

Klopp remained tight-lipped on who will start in goal at the weekend after Loris Karius made his debut in the EFL Cup win over Derby County, after Simon Mignolet had started the first six games of the season.

He told reporters at his pre-match press conference, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo: “This is not the place to announce line-ups. But we will think about it in a positive way. It’s a decision at a high level because I am very happy with both of our keepers.”

“When I make a final decision for the next game it doesn’t mean we will go like this for the next five years.”

After a tricky spell of away fixtures which has seen Liverpool come away from games against Arsenal and Chelsea where they were not necessarily expected to win, Hull City presents a very different challenge for the Reds at Anfield on Saturday.

Some have suggested that Liverpool relish playing against the sides challenging towards the top end of the table more, and fall short against sides they are expected to win against, who are likely to put men behind the ball and force the Reds to break them down. The Liverpool boss says he wants his side to be angry when they come up against the Tigers.

Klopp added: “I don’t know why people think we have problems with, how do you say it, bus parking? I didn’t see too much space against Chelsea.

“I would love to see everybody go with the right expectations to these games. Why should it be easier? Why should a team who people think is weaker than us not have the opportunity to win? I can guarantee it’s not about the attitude of the players.

“It will be difficult. But if we accept before that it is difficult then we can perform and that is what we should do.”

Klopp confirmed that Daniel Sturridge should return to training today following a slight hip problem and should be available for the weekend’s game, while Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana are likely to return after being rested for the midweek EFL Cup win over Derby County.

He added that Joe Gomez is progressing well as he recovers from an Achilles problem, but has yet to return to full training.
