Liverpool responded to their disappointing 2-0 defeat to Burnley with a 5-0 win over Burton Albion.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp indicated his side used the options available to them in a better way during their 5-0 win over Burton Albion in the EFL Cup, compared to their 2-0 defeat to Burnley in the Premier League at the weekend.
The Reds responded to their disappointment at Turf Moor in the perfect way as they comfortably brushed aside their Championship opponents in order to reach the third round of the competition.

Klopp is quoted by the Liverpool Echo explaining the differences, saying: “There were a few moments at Burnley where we had sharpness but it was unbelievable how many times where one more pass we had 15 times completely free in the box and we didn’t see it.
“We needed to use this, and that’s what we did and today was better. We were there where we had to be. We had possession in the box and the first two goals were like that, one in transition and the other after a second all.
“Even games where you lose, you have to use things.”

It seems that Klopp was frustrated by his side not being that little bit bolder or brave at Turf Moor, and contributed to what was ultimately a toothless display in the final third as they were on the end of a 2-0 defeat – despite having 80% of possession and in excess of 20 shots on goal.
Instead Liverpool seemed to work their way into their opponents area in a better way against Burton, and got in and behind defenders rather than simply having pot-shots from distance or playing the safe sideways pass when a more direct option was available.
Liverpool picked their way through their opponents at the Pirelli Stadium. While much credit goes to Burnley for their defensive efforts at the weekend, it’s clear that Klopp was a little more satisfied with his side in the final third in response to that defeat – which is reflected in the scoreline.
