Sunderland have yet to keep a clean sheet in the league so far this season and find themselves second from bottom after five games.
Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford seems confident that the defence will get things right despite another defeat at the weekend at Tottenham, the Sunderland Echo reports.
The Black Cats were taken apart in the second half by Everton on their own patch, yet went down to the slenderest of margins at the Stadium of Light, but faced a total of 31 shots on goal.
Pickford told the Sunderland Echo: “We are a new back four and just getting to know each other still. We will get there. There have been changes.
“It starts with working hard in training – which we are doing – we are bonding together and the more we play together the better we will be. We will be okay.”
The Black Cats have yet to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League so far this season and will need to cut out the silly errors that are contributing to their current struggles, which has seen them pick up just one point from their opening five games so far this season.
Their cause probably was not helped in the defeat to Tottenham which saw Patrick van Aanholt withdrawn from the line-up just minutes before kick-off in circumstances that seem a little puzzling, meaning a reshuffle in the back four for David Moyes, while new signings are still trying to find their feet.
However, with only Stoke City below them in the table, there is a real need for them to improve their form very soon. They have two games before the international break against Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion, which could be key to establishing any sort of momentum in the early part of the season.
While Pickford may be showing some impressive form by being busy in the Sunderland goal, it has not been a good sign that he has been left so exposed so far this season.
