Liverpool have scored the most goals in the league, but that might lead to sides trying to disrupt their flow.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has told the club’s official magazine that the side has to be prepared for sides that want to break up their rhythm.

Henderson feels sides may try to do just that after Liverpool’s start to the season has seen them score 30 goals from their opening 12 games, becoming the league’s highest scorers as they sit second in the table.

The midfielder is quoted in the official LFC magazine, saying: “I think because of the way we started the season, teams will come and try to defend and break up the play: they’ll want to disrupt our rhythm as much as possible.

“But that’s part and parcel of football – teams might see that as the best way to get a point, or three, against us.

“We have to be prepared to face that scenario and when we do come up against it, find the solution to get a win. It’s about momentum and keeping it going by retaining the ball well and ensuring the pressure stays on them.”

The Reds surrendered top spot at the weekend after a goalless draw with Southampton. The Saints arguably did exactly what Henderson was outlining as they sat in and made things difficult for the Reds for much of the game.

Liverpool had to be patient – something Henderson also alludes to in his interview – and chances did eventually come their way. The only thing the Reds were guilty of was not putting them away, and they will hope those kind of days will not become a regular feature. Otherwise it was a very good performance from Jurgen Klopp’s side.

This current Liverpool team knows it has the firepower to get the better of sides, but many are likely to sit in when they come to Anfield and try to either limit the damage or feel it is their best chance of getting something.

Sunderland could be one of those sides this weekend, meaning yet another examination of Liverpool’s patience and attacking strengths.
