Adnan Januzaj will hope his loan spell at Sunderland can help kick-start his career.
Sunderland midfielder Adnan Januzaj ha said he is grateful for the opportunity given to him by manager David Moyes, with the Scot loaning him from Manchester United this season.
Januzaj came to prominence under Moyes’ management at Old Trafford but he was not afforded the same chances by Louis van Gaal.
When Moyes was given the job at the Stadium of Light, Januzaj made the switch to Wearside on a temporary basis as well and he seems determined to prove things to those who have doubted his ability.
He is quoted in the Chronicle, saying: “I’m back with the same manager [Moyes], he gives me a lot of chances to play and to prove myself to people.
“Over the last two years, I haven’t had many opportunities to play so I have come here to play, and to prove to people that they were wrong.
“I love to play football so I am happy to be here and play games.”
There is certainly that extra motivation for Januzaj to prove that he has got what it takes to be a very good player if he is given the regular game time.
During his season under Moyes at Old Trafford, while the overall campaign was a disappointing one for the club, Januzaj was one of very few players who shone. He made 35 appearances in all competitions for the first-team in the 2013/14 season, scoring four goals including both in a 2-1 win over Sunderland.
The following season he made 18 appearances in the Premier League under van Gaal but was rarely used from the start, while the following season he was sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund, despite scoring in the second game of the season. His time in Germany was a brief and forgettable one as he only made seven appearances for Dortmund.
He has scored one goal from his four appearances so far this season and shows more signs of getting regular game time in the short term. He will hope it is a productive one for him on a personal level as well as for the Black Cats.
