Southampton face Inter Milan in the Europa League this evening at St Mary’s, having lost the reverse fixture 1-0 at St Mary’s.

Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse has said the side need to make home advantage count when they face Inter Milan in the Europa League, the Daily Echo reports.

The Saints will look to take control of their own destiny in Group K – having won one, drawn one and lost one from their three games so far.

They played well against Inter Milan in the San Siro but lost out to a solitary strike from Antonio Candreva. This time around Southampton face a side who recently sacked their manager in Frank De Boer and could come up against something of an unknown quantity.

Ward-Prowse is quoted in the Daily Echo, saying: “We have to use the home advantage. We still have a bit of disappointment from the first game, so it’s going to be a bit of revenge and making sure we can get the three points this time.

“We weren’t disappointed by the way we played at the San Siro. But obviously the result wasn’t right. We dominated the game and should have put the game to bed.”

General view of Southampton during training

As the midfielder points out, the performance was pretty positive but it was a case of missed chances, and if Southampton could provide that clinical edge this evening they would take a huge step to qualifying for the knock-out stages of the competition.

Although Inter may have that element of surprise up their sleeve this evening, there are going to be traits that remain from the recently brief reign of De Boer, so the side are not going completely into the unknown this evening.
