Milner has been used in a left-back role so far this season, which came as a surprise to many at the start of the campaign.

Liverpool’s James Milner has said that it is up to him to make sure that manager Jurgen Klopp does not feel the need to go out and buy another left-back, the Liverpool Echo reports.
Milner has been handed the role this season ahead of Alberto Moreno and has been a success so far, but he has admitted to not studying one particular player in the role because he knew that playing left-back for Klopp would be different than for any other manager.
The 30-year-old is quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: “It is down to me to make sure they don’t buy a left back.
“Full-back is a position which changes massively depending on who the manager is. A left back now is different to a left back 10 years ago and that is why I have not studied anyone.
“It would be pointless. And a left back for Jürgen Klopp is going to be playing a lot different to a left back for another manager.
“There are going to be times when I will end up in centre midfield and centre midfield will be covering me.”

So far there are few complaints about the job Milner is doing in the role, even if some fans and those not associated with the club were a little baffled at Klopp not bringing in a left-back in the summer, but instead choosing to use Milner in the role and waiting for the right player to become available should he need them.
It says a great deal about Klopp’s faith in Milner that he wants him to play in that role and that he wanted to find a way to get him in the side. He offers that experience and you know what you are going to get from him in terms of attacking threat and positional play off the ball.
Given that Milner is still keeping Moreno out of the side, Klopp clearly feels he is doing a decent enough job, and there is nothing to suggest a move for a left-back in January. Although circumstances could change between now and the end of the season. All Milner can do is try to continue to impress.
