The Newcastle United captain seems pleased with the spirit in the dressing room on Tyneside.
Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has suggested the side has started to gel after a summer which has seen many players come and go at St James’ Park.
Manager Rafa Benitez has brought in no fewer than 12 faces while a number of high profile players have left in the form of Andros Townsend, Georginio Wijnaldum and Moussa Sissoko, while Tim Krul has been among those to leave the club on loan.
With all these changes, Newcastle would be forgiven for starting the season slowly, but after losing their opening two games in the Championship they have managed to bounce back with three consecutive league wins and book their place in third round of the EFL Cup.
Lascelles is quoted in the Shields Gazette, saying: “We’ve got great players, and with the attitude we’ve been showing recently, we can beat anyone on our day.
“We’ve got a strong team, and inside our changing room now it’s really strong.
“That’s massively important, not just the stuff on the pitch but inside the changing room. People are really starting to gel and get on with each other.”
It is a welcome sign for the Magpies that they feel they are starting to click. They generated some momentum prior to the international break and they will look to maintain that when they take on Derby County at the iPro Stadium this Saturday and make it four league wins on the spin.
They are placed in a good position for this stage of the season and if they can pick up where they left off, there could be an ominous feeling about things.
