Lascelles feels that teams like Wolves should not be allowed to beat Newcastle on their own patch.
Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has said things have got to change in their home games to ensure they do no’t suffer defeats like they did at the hands of Wolves 11 days ago, during an interview with the Chronicle.
The Magpies have lost two home games in the league so far this campaign and are in a different situation to last season when it comes to the kind of approach they get from visiting teams.
Lascelles is quoted in the Chronicle, saying: “After the Wolves defeat, which definitely wasn’t acceptable, things do need to change.
“Teams can’t be coming to our place and beating us like they did when we played against Wolves. Norwich a good team but we have good, fit lads so there’s no reason why we can’t turn ourselves around and get the win.
“Last season it was more that we’d sit back and we’d look to counter teams. It’s completely different now, teams will respect us as a team, as a club and as players. It’s down to us to change our style of play.”
Given that Norwich could return to the top of the Championship with a win, and are looking to make it five successive league victories, they may be more willing to come at Newcastle than other sides are, which might suit Rafa Benitez’s team as they look to close the gap on their opponents.
A win for Newcastle would take them into third place and just three points off the summit.
Newcastle have certainly got to adapt to sides that a more willing to stick men behind the ball and hope to pick up a point, but one way of getting the better of that is to win their other games to generate a confidence on their part, and a fear factor for their opponents to face whenever they travel to St James’ Park.
It is one factor that Newcastle will need to overcome in stubborn opponents. They have the quality to do it, and if they break those sides down on a consistent basis it could become a good habit.
