Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell seems happy with the additions the club has made during the summer, including the signing of Didier Ndong.
Rodwell could well be competing with the club’s record signing for a place in the side, but seems to relish that prospect, and added it was important the Black Cats made signings in the middle of the park.
He’s quoted in the Chronicle, saying: “Didier’s arrival is more competition and we have Jan Kirchhoff and Lee Cattermole to come back plus Seb Larsson too, although he is (a) long-term (absentee).

“There is strength there, that is brilliant.
“In my opinion central midfield is one of the most important positions on the field – we need as much strength in depth there as possible.”
There could be a few debuts for Sunderland when they take on Everton at the Stadium of Light on Monday night, while some players will be facing their former club – Rodwell included. Steven Pienaar and Victor Anichebe are both summer signings that could line up against the Toffees.

Given the start Sunderland have had to the season in terms of injuries, it was imperative they brought in several news faces before the transfer window closed as the squad was down to the bare bones. Combined with new faces at the club, while one or two players could be close to returning from injury, the squad can look that little bit healthier.
Competition and quality throughout the squad could be huge in terms of ensuring the club doesn’t get dragged into yet another relegation battle this season. There is some Premier League experience, a lot of promising talent and some exciting players from abroad which could provide a good mix for the Black Cats to kick on this season.
